T20 bowling is a demanding endeavour. Holding one’s ground in this cut-throat world of merciless batting requires an equal measure of supreme confidence and the captain’s trust.

Punjab Kings’ V. Vyshak is blessed with both.

The 29-year-old has quickly become skipper Shreyas Iyer’s go-to man in IPL 2026.

On the support system in PBKS and Shreyas’ leadership credentials, Vyshak said: “Shreyas always backs his players. It doesn’t matter if you have been doing well or not. He talks to all the players the same way he speaks to Ricky (Ponting) or anybody else. I can go and talk to him whenever I feel, as his door is always open. That is something that you always thrive on because he is a senior, and he has done exceptionally well in this format. Shreyas has been playing for India, and I am sure he will be India captain soon.”

The pacer, who has already taken five wickets in his first two outings this season, does not want to focus on how many overs he has bowled or when he delivered them; for Vyshak, the singular aim is victory.

“I do not look at whether I’ve bowled three overs in the PowerPlay or in the death overs. I want to perform in a way that it doesn’t matter if I am bowling one ball or four overs [in the match]. As long as the team is winning, that is all that is required,” he said during a virtual chat on Sunday.

Standing at the heart of Vyshak’s conviction is his most trusted weapon: the wide yorker.

“If I am confident about that particular day when I know that I’m nailing my yorkers, I think it doesn’t matter which batter I’m bowling to. I know that as long as I am doing what I am supposed to do, I am going to win that challenge,” he said.
